The NDP’s greener economy means more jobs for Renfrew County

Families are finding it harder and harder to make ends meet. The NDP’s Eric Burton promises job creation and training programs that promote greener opportunities for our local economy.

“Too often we are told we must pick. We are told that we can have either a strong economy or a clean environment” said Burton. “Food on the table or clean air and water. But here in Renfrew County we’re beginning to see we aren’t getting either”

Renfrew County has suffered the loss of over 1,500 jobs in the last 3 years. The forest industry in this riding has been decimated as mill closures have reduced the demand for this renewable resource.

“Farmers in Renfrew County are under tremendous pressure to reduce costs or get out of farming.” says Burton. The NDP recognizes that now more than ever there is the need for a responsible, step-by-step plan that creates jobs and cleans up the environment.

The NDP are committed to supporting Renfrew County through:

• A farm-first policy that puts the farmer at the centre of local production, distribution and financing
• Support for the forest industries through local manufacturing of wood products and new and innovative uses for forestry products such as biomass
• Expanded national green building and retrofit programs, including specific programming for low-income households
• Grants and training spaces for green-collar jobs
