Felicite Stairs Seeks NDP Nomination

RENFREW: Felicite Stairs has announced her intention to seek the NDP nomination for this fall’s election. Stairs, a lawyer and community activist, ran a strong campaign for the NDP in the last provincial election in 2003.

“I am excited about running for the NDP again. We care about things that matter to the people of Renfrew County. There’s a growing ‘prosperity gap’ between the rich and the rest of us. We want to narrow it. We have plans to do something about the huge job losses in manufacturing and forestry. We have long led other parties on protecting our environment. In every important area, the NDP is on the cutting edge”, said Stairs.

“We need strong leadership for the province and we need a leader who knows the very real concerns of Ontarians and not just those in the big cities,” Stairs said in support of Howard Hampton, the NDP leader from Kenora / Rainy River. “I have been working with Howard for a long time now and I know he understands the special problems that rural people, working and low-income families face. Protecting the environment is critical for tourism – which is key to our County economy. And we simply can’t afford to lose any more manufacturing and resource related jobs. Those are good full-time jobs, with good pay and benefits that are spent right here in the Valley.”

“I enjoyed the 2003 campaign because it gave me an opportunity to talk to people directly about their experiences and ideas.

“I know from talking to people that the McGuinty Liberals have failed to fix the problems created by the Harris Conservatives. The NDP has answers to these problems. I am looking forward to the campaign,” concluded Stairs.

The nomination meeting will be held in Pembroke at the Marguerite Centre on Thursday, June 21, 2007 at 7:00 pm.
