Local physiotherapist and health care advocate Sue McSheffrey, announced today that she intends to seek the nomination for New Democratic Party candidate in the next federal election. This will be Mrs. McSheffrey’s third federal election having run in 2004 and 2006. The nomination meeting will be held in Renfrew at the Recreation Centre on Argyle St S. Wednesday September 10th at 7pm.
The following is a statement from Sue McSheffrey:
“With Stephen Harper quitting his job as Prime Minister, I am once again submitting my name as a candidate for the New Democrats in the next election. I am asking the voters of Renfrew Nipissing Pembroke to put health care, jobs, the environment and peace first in the election on October 14th.
After 9 years in office it is time that Cheryl Gallant was judged on her performance and series of broken promises.
She promised to end the gun registry and it is still consuming millions of tax dollars.
She did nothing as jobs were lost in Renfrew County and stood by when while her party supported the abolition of farm subsidies and support programs.
She is part of a government that reduced representation in Ontario while giving extra seats to Alberta.
She promised to clean up parliament and has been part of a party run by corporate lobbyists and that matched the Liberals before them in scandals. Gallant’s government lied about income trusts, is alleged to have tried to bribe a dying MP for his vote, and broke Canadian laws on election funding.
She voted against extending veterans’ benefits, against lowering the Peace Tower flag to half mast on the death of a soldier, against the New Democrat’s Climate Change Accountability Act and against the Clean Air Act
She voted for a fixed election date in 2009 and now asks for your support a year earlier.
It is time to send her a message and vote for change. Jack Layton has a plan that puts families, the environment and workers first. I look forward to being selected the New Democrat candidate and talking to people about my party’s ideas and plans. Ultimately I look forward to serving all the residents of Renfrew Nipissing Pembroke as your Member of Parliament.”
