NDP Leader Andrea Horwath stood out in Tuesday night’s leaders’ debate as the clear choice for positive change in Ontario, says Brian Dougherty, NDP candidate in Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke.
“Andrea showed there’s a real choice in this election and Mr. Hudak’s and Mr. McGuinty’s tired old ideas aren’t working anymore,” said Dougherty.
As Horwath noted during the debate, “You can choose one of the same old suits or you can choose the kind of change that puts people first.”
Dougherty says that Horwath contrasted the NDP’s responsible plan for affordable change that brings people together with the divisive plans of the other two leaders.
“On the issue of corporate taxes and job creation, Horwath promoted her plan of tax credits for companies that create new positions instead of the McGuinty-Hudak plan to continue the multibillion-dollar corporate tax giveaways that don’t create jobs,” he said.
“I liked when she said ‘I disagree with both of these gentlemen when they talk about blank cheques to companies that ship jobs out of Ontario. Don’t give blank cheques to companies that are shipping jobs somewhere else.’”
“I like the idea of rewarding the companies who create jobs,” he said.
